I've been dying to take pictures of this sign. The plaza itself is being renovated, and it's just a matter of time before they notice this is still on the outskirts of the parking lot.

Does it look like it was rigged for neon?

Just as great from the other side.

This really cracked me up.

It's apparently an old joke, but it's new to me and it's a good'un.

More neon, Salt Lake City

Here's another Day-n-Nite shot like the Classic Bowling one below. Most of the block that this sign is on is scheduled for demolition this summer, though the fate of this building and sign are currently unknown. The sign is a local landmark and there are preservation efforts afoot.

Even *more* Salt Lake neon!Collapse )

Thumbnailed here is possibly the most famous sign in Salt Lake City, UT - that of the Ritz Classic bowling alley. The CLASSIC / BOWLING part in the middle spins and the whole thing is fair-to-middlin' spectacular. The sign is gigantic, at least by our modest aw-shucks country standards.

More Salt Lake neon!Collapse )

North Ogden signs

A few more signs from (North) Ogden, Utah, where I went looking for old Route-66-style signs on Route 89:

Obnoxious construction signs - with fix!

These signs are found on the chainlinks surrounding the massive University of Utah library reconstruction project.

They annoy me partly because the project has rendered a big hunk of the campus impassable and made the library noisy inside, which is sick and wrong. But even apart from that, these signs need a tweak...

Oh yes? What's that?Collapse )

Bill and Nada's Cafe, SLC UT

Another goner, of which I never took a pitcher myself (got this one from this blog entry). It is the Salt Lake City legend Bill & Nada's Café, which was torn down nearly ten years ago.

And what remains of it?Collapse )

Parcourse, east of Weber State University campus, Ogden, UT. Pretty close to here.

On edit: drat, looks like there are at least two Geocaches along the course, possibly four, and I didn't think to bring my GPS.

...and a few signs from Salt Lake City

Inspired by yesterday's jaunt around Ogden, I took the camera out into the gloom of this drizzly Salt Lake City day and pointed it at some signs, when the little cloudburstlets allowed.

I saw them and they opened up my eyes...Collapse )

Photoshop Signs
Years ago Something Awful posted a "Comedy Goldmine" article in which a bunch of people Photoshopped road sighs to indicate how people actually interpret them. Thought it would be perfect for this forum. samwibatt will be intrigued to find art imitating life. Or does it?
